“La Madonnetta has been a destination for wayfarers, a resting place for soldiers in the First World War, a hospitable place for the illustrious American writer E. Hemingway who participated in the war as an ambulance driver and war correspondent in 1918. But it has always been, in its 100-year history, an attractive meeting place for all, with an exciting game of cards, lively conversation and a good glass of wine.<\/p>\n

The atmosphere upon entering La Madonnetta is familiar, inviting and welcoming: The antique furniture, the old fireplace, the pendulum clock that marks the time, the walls adorned with period photos, portraits, meaningful and ironic newspaper cuttings, sheets full of satirical jokes, the ceiling and the beams from which hang hotplates and farsore welcome you and give you a taste of a genuine past lived by simple and humble people, just as simple as the life of our fathers, sons of a hard-working land, was.<\/p>\n

And next to a good glass of wine and the delicious dishes of Veneto home cooking and genuine traditional flavours, La Madonnetta offers the opportunity to admire a work of craftsmanship, the work of Toni Guerra, that best expresses the close link between this ancient osteria and the turreted town of Marostica: it is the large circular bench, obtained from the large Pausolino’s pignaia destroyed by lightning in 1975, which reproduces the walled city with a small table with a large chessboard in the centre, reminding everyone of Marostica’s most significant spectacle: the chess game with living characters that is played in the large Piazza”.<\/p>\n

The Osteria Madonnetta, a hospitable place for meeting and conviviality within the Scaliger walls of Marostica, has been run by our Guerra family since 11 November 1904. We are certain that great-grandfather Giuseppe, ‘Bepi’, on the day he bought this restaurant for our great-grandmother Erminia, would never have imagined that so many years later someone from his own family would now carry on this activity, offering those who frequent it a tasty dish and a welcoming smile.<\/p>\n

The Osteria Madonnetta is a unique establishment. As soon as you enter, the time machine plunges you into a distant past, arousing wonder and a curious desire to know; in fact, every object, the benches, the old tables, every image, the photos of yesteryear, which we have lovingly preserved, make and will always make you experience intense emotions. Smells that whet the appetite and superfine tastes of food recall the flavours of the genuine cuisine of yesteryear, and the wines, with their delicate perfume and taste, evoke in the mind suggestive images of the vineyards of our sunny and verdant Veneto hills, full of charm and, at the same time, a concrete sign of a centuries-old winemaking tradition of great quality.<\/p>\n

Inside the osteria or in the adjacent garden, the thread of memory wanders and the imagination will make you relive the scenes of the many regular friends of the ‘Madonnetta’ intent on playing cards or simply chatting in front of the fireplace, sipping a good glass of wine.<\/p>\n

Thanks to our mother, Annamaria, we have introduced simple, genuine, tasty dishes to the menu, making the Osteria Madonnetta an original and typical example of Veneto cuisine.<\/p>\n
