Es gibt Nachweise auf die Verwendung in der r\u00f6mischen Zeit und anscheinend stammt der Name von \u201ciecur ficatum\u201d (Leber mit Feigen) ab: um die Leber, vor allem von Schweinen und G\u00e4nsen, gr\u00f6\u00dfer zu machen, wurden diese mit Feigen gef\u00fcttert.<\/p>\n<p>Andere behaupten, dass der Name davon abstammt, weil in der r\u00f6mischen Zeit die Leber gemeinsam mit Feigen gekocht wurde, um den besonders starken Gschmack abzuschw\u00e4chen. Auf jeden Fall trafen die Venezianer die richtige Entscheidung \u2013  die Feigen wurden durch Zwiebel ersetzt (h\u00e4ufiges Vorkommen in der Lagune), die den starken Geschmack der Leber ebenso mildern.<\/p>\n<p>Eine weitere Zutat ist der Essig, der in der Vergangenheit, als es noch keine K\u00fchlschr\u00e4nke gab, den unangenehmen Geruch  dieses Gerichtes entfernte, wenn dieses nicht frisch konsumiert wurde. Heutzutage entscheidet der K\u00fcchenchef ob er Essig, Wei\u00dfwein oder Zitrone verwendet.<br \/>\nUrspr\u00fcnglich wurde die Leber vom Schwein angeboten, heute hingegen wird aufgrund des nicht so starken Geschmacks die Kalbsleber bevorzugt.
